Ishaqzaade.....Kahan Hain Ab Jahaanon Main!

* Spoiler Alert: Read at your own risk*

I was rather eager to watch Ishaqzaade because the promos looked very promising, I like the director, Habib Faisal's previous work Do Dooni Char and I like Parineeti Chopra. She's different from all the other newbie actresses we have. She's cute, has a dazzling smile, possesses great screen presence, is confident and can act! Definitely better than her sister! I went in with a lot of hopes for the movie and didn't come out completely disappointed. It was an ok-ok movie where the characters were well etched and could have been used to bring out a better love story, but weren't. The love story wasn't convincing. They fell in and out of love rather easily....! It was like a nice meal with all the dal, subzi, chapati and chaval....but the achar was missing that made the difference. Maybe all the UP style adaptations of Shakespeare's work should be best left to Vishal Bharadwaj for the complete meal feeling.

Parineeti Chopra doesn't disappoint. Arjun Kapoor is haawwttt .....until he opens his mouth! I loved watching him on screen, but the minute he delivered a dialogue, I went into a self-question mode wondering how did I find him hot! He looks and acts like Abhishek Bachchan, with a side angle resemblance to Pratiek Babbar. Seriously, didn't he get better actors to emulate? He can't eat with an injured arm, but can easily do push-ups with the same arm. But then, that's the case with all our Bollywood heroes. Even with all the criticisms, he's far more tolerable  than his cousin, Sonam Kapoor! So I'll give it to him.

The music is refreshing good. Pareshan and both the Ishaqzaade songs are my favourites. I don't know if  others could feel it, but I think the starting music of the Ishaqzaade title track had a little Jan-Gana-Mana feeling, maybe to drive home the point of National Integration because of the Hindu-Muslim angle in the movie. Also, one can't miss the last note of the movie where they mention how many people die because of inter-caste marriages was very Satyamev-Jayateish. Speaking of the end, I didn't like it. I'm the typical Bollywood audience. I want to see a 'Happily ever after' ending, guess I'll have to watch DDLJ and its last scene of 'Jaa Simran Jeele Apni Zindagi' to have a feel good feeling.

The final word is that the movie is a good one time watch. Should you spend money to watch it in a theatre? Well, that depends on how much money you have! I would recommend waiting until it comes on TV and hope that it doesn't get canned at the nth minute ala The Dirty Picture.

Chalo, am off to finally see The Dirty Picture.

And yes, I'll try listening to the many requests I've got to start writing again/writing more frequently and shall come back soon :) To all the regular readers, a big thank you for sticking by all my writer's mood swings and still staying loyal and pushing me to write more :)

Kaminey Review!! Worth the 160 buckf!!

Temperature- 98.6 F
Definitely no fever.
No swine flu symptoms too (anyways, I'd have been a medical marvel to get SF.... I'm at home since 19th April!)
Then how come two posts in three days?? Well, you're in for some good news... I'm in the mood for writing, so you're having another post so soon!!

You should never watch movies with your parents! They don't listen to you and shut you up and you can't even shout back! Now, I had this argument with my Dad who wanted to spend 160 bucks per ticket and I was fighting with him at the ticket counter, much to the amazement of the ticketwalla, who must've been seeing this behaviour for the first time...that a kid is asking a parent to not spend! I mean, I know Kaminey is a damned good movie..but 160 bucks!??! I'm not a miser, but I hate spending money where it's not required..... Gujju genes + MBA karne ki ichha... deadly combo!! Anyways, even though I am this zero maintenance person, I still don't have a boyfriend or guys interested in making me their girlfriend, so I really don't know what men really want! See, I'd be happy for a 8 o clock morning show on Vodafone Tuesdays too.... Any takers...?No....Still?!?! Damned life I have!

Now,we had gone to watch Kaminey.... the argument with Dad ensured we miss the beginning. And I didn't understand quite a bit in the first half of the movie so I was cursing all the critics and everyone who's been lisping since they've seen the movie. But, then, I called up my woman Friday (Aanchal, you sillies!) and asked her to enlighten me and my family.....who were all waiting for two years to end quickly so that I'm done with my MBA and get a job and shell out 640 bucks for the movie I got them to see! So, back to the movie.... I'm sure you've heard enough about it from the critics and all....and trust me, they were right....unlike the last time when they went horribly wrong about Oye Lucky..... Lucky Oye...!! It's a fantaftic movie!! Yeah, the reft of the blog poft haf been a victim of lifping!

The background score (the lisped version is well..umm, nevermind!) is fantaftic! Be it Dhan te na adding the spice to the narrative or Duniya main....the mufic is awefome, the acting is mindblaftingly good.... Amole Gupte is brilliant as Bhope Bhau and his Jai Maharashtra (I'm not lisping here!!) thing waf pretty good! Priyanka haf been a wonderful revealtion fince Fashion. And what do I fay about my dear Fhahid!!!! I'm just crying over the fact that why I'm not a Punju... had I been one, I too, would be around guys like (Fhahid, Ranbir, Kunal) Kapoor.... or at leaft guyf who're tall, handfome and again handfome! But, I loved Charlie than Guddu....yeah you gueffed it right... I'm a little off candy floff romance thefe dayf. Charlie waf mean, and you know how our elderf have alwayf been right about all good girlf falling for the bad guy! Charlie in that fhower ftrumming the guitar with Duniya main logo ko playing in the background had me speechleff and dif-oriented for quite fome time. OK. Enough of ftuff for the girlf. I liked Priyanka's character a lot. The entire I-am-pregnant-what-do-we-do-now scene is, according to me one of the beft scenes in Indian cinema!! The way she handled the role.... speaking Marathi et al..... and she didn't even have Marathi as a compulsory language in 10th....hatf off to her for pulling it off so convincingly!!! All I can speak in Marathi after ftudying it for feven yearf is "Mala marathi naahi aate!" which is alfo, wrong Marathi! But Bhope Bhau...pleafe....Jai Maharashtra... don't throw me out because I can't speak Marathi... I'm like the fugar...diffolved in the milk!!!

All in all, TOTALLY RECOMMENDED. Pleafe watch it afap! And now, this para is dedicated to all the moronf who didn't get the movie. One fuch (the last letter of the word is H. So don't mis-read) moron waf sitting behind me who joked with hif friend that the director should've given the audience a written script so that they could understand the movie! How I wanted to turn around and maro a witty remark....but...family's presence...so I didn't!! Then, there are other geniuses too...my fifter's (sister!) friendf.... they didn't undersftand the movie even when they had reached the movie theatre much before even the commercialf began. I really feel like telling them "Abey Degree phad ke phek do, bloody engineerf... err...forry... SE ftudentf!" But I wonder if they're not getting a movie... how do they understand engineering!?!? Our country-people's IQ is going below Paris Hilton's!! What a fhame! If you don't underftand the movie, mail me.... I'll explain!

P.S : Moral of the story until next post: Listen to your parents. They're always right... 160 bucks well spent!!! No regrets!

P.P.S: Line of the song till next post: Tanhayee ne fursat di hain...pehli baar mohabbat ki hain!! Killer line!!! I'm back to my liking-candy-floss romance self!!!

P.P.P.S: I know I can be hanged till death for saying this, but I really want to watch What's Your Rashee.... you know, the Libran girl is shown to be a big boss at an MNC!!! No wonder why I want to see it!!! What...did you actually think I wanted to see Harman.... craffffffffffffffffyyyy or what!?!?!?

LAK Review

Whoever says that a wounded knee is better than a broken heart? I really wanna meet that loser! You can at least walk without a limp with a broken heart!I've still not learnt walking without tripping, but I pride myself by never really falling. But, today I fell twice and tripped once in a span of 3 hours and hurt my right knee in the same place both the times! And God, that hurts! And there wasn't even an Edward Cullen to prevent me from falling! Fact sucks....Fiction rocks!!! I'll take a broken heart any day, at least the pain ain't evident to others! (Jokes apart, I'll take wounded knees and even broken elbows in exchange for a normal, unbroken heart!!)

I saw Love Aaj Kal, second day, first show! And it's strictly okay. I didn't like it much. In the first 15 minutes of the movie, I was whispering to Aanchal if it's the same Imitiaz Ali who's made Socha Na Tha and Jab We Met making this excuse for a movie! The only reason I saw LAK was Imitiaz Ali ( I HATE Saif and Deepika, BTW) and my undying love for the two movies he had made earlier. But this one will disappoint people. Especially the ones who've been on a staple diet of SNT and JWM. (Read me!)

Firstly, Saif doesn't look cool trying to do a Geet here. Guys who blabber unnecessarily aren't cute! Deepika can't act. Well, she was awesome in that Close-Up's Kya-aap-close-up-karte-haiiynn ad, but her awesomeness ended with that 30 sec ad! The problem with the movie was that the love story between Saif and Deepika didn't get time to develop.... maybe that's why the movie wasn't that great. The songs too, interrupt with the movie, not flowing effortlessly like they did in SNT and JWM. And Rahul Khanna is WASTED.... I mean he'd have been better than Saif playing Saif.

If you've seen all the three Ali movies, you can figure out that the basic story lines of all the three movies have been same... guy meets girl, they meet knowing they'd never meet again, have a gala time in that time because it ain't coming back, go their ways, get sad and sing amazingly woebegone songs, realise their love for the other when one of them is getting married! This seemed so aaawwww-sssoooo-cuutteee in SNT and JWM, but here, it's constipated!
Gosh! Seems like I've done a PhD in Imitiaz Ali movies! That's what happens to you if you're a compulsive JWM and SNT watcher and watch it everytime it comes on TV.

The only moments I enjoyed in the movie were the song Dooriyan, the sometimes-present-sometimes-past storyline (reminds me of the story I'm writing!!), the line Saif says when he's dropping a drunk Deepika home and when Deepika cries to herself in the climax when Saif finally comes to express his feelings. God, this scene was the best scene in the entire movie! And also when Neetu Kapoor appears in the end as Harleen Kaur.... as Rishi Kapoor's wife.... just an after thought....couldn't they have shown Ranbir as their son too, arey puri family picture ban jati....with bahu and bhatiji's boyfriend and all!!!

Go, watch it, only if you've got nothing else to do, but if you're a die hard Imitiaz Ali fan, DON'T GO!

P.S: Harini, I'll do the tag soon!

Movies, Movies.... and many more movies!!

Hello... Happy new year!! Hope you did something more happening than what I did on the New Year's Eve (I was sitting at home, getting bored, for the records!). Now, I didn't really feel like partying... for the basic reason that keeping aside my 1.5kg heavy journal was proving to be a tough task for me! Now, in the past week, people were spared of my posts because I was making yet another futile attempt of finishing my journal... guess it'll be done when my kids would be getting ready for their convocation! I don't see anything happening before that!

I've seen a looottt of movies while completeing the journal. The maximum being 3 on one day... Saanwariya, Dil Kabaddi and Sorry Bhai on one day... from 8pm to 3.30 am! Now, I know people hated Saanwariya, but I really liked it.. that's why I saw it for the second time. Firstly, it was a SLB movie, secondly, I love the story(the book is much better though... it's called The White Nights, by the way. Didn't mention the author because you'd anyways not know how to pronounce his Russian name!) thirdly, Ranbir Kapoor and fourthly, I really like Sonam Kapoor... she's much better than Deepika! Genes do help sometimes! Saanwariya is really nice if you don't mind the pestering songs and the slow pace. I'm waiting for another Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam from SLB.. it's time!!

Dil Kabaddi... well, I don't really know what genre to put this movie in... it was really something! I guess it was like the softest version of soft porn minus the nudity! The movie was not even average... had to sit through it, actually (I was too lazy to change the DVD!!). But there was one thing I learnt from this movie... that for some people falling out of love and then falling in love with someone else still while being in a relationship with the former is so freaking easy!! Gosh!

Sorry Bhai was nice. Chitrangada is pretty! And the story was nice actually.... not very good... but bearable... actually right after Dil Kabaddi, anything except RGV movies is bearable! The songs are good too. The end was really nice... the twist of course!

Had seen Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi the earlier day. It's a sweet movie... actually much better than what I had expected. When I heard that that Anushka dame doesn't recognize SRK, I thought what crap has Aditya Chopra got down too... maybe he was suffering from the RGV fever... to descend from the height of creative ingeniuty to utter rubbish! If you don't mind this point, the movie becomes really nice. SRK as Suriji was too cute... all husbands should be like that! And all boyfriends should propose like the way Raj did!! The songs are not great except for Tujh main Rab dikhta hain. I never liked this song earlier when Ajay and Aanch used to sing it. I have even laughed at my friends when they said that could see Rab in their love.. but when I saw that song, even I could. I know I'm born filmy, but seriously, it's not that you see your love's photo in God's photo or anything(not that filmy also!), but when you listen to that song, all you can think of is that one person you love/loved/thought you don't love, but actually you do. Rab ne, in no way is anyway closer to DDLJ... no songs are of that calibre... I won't even compare any other aspects... DDLJ was like Bible.... and there's no other Bible. Waiting for the New Testament from Aditya Chopra, SRK and Kajol... what they created was MAGIC.... !

Saw Hijack too.... and still alive. Esha Deol contradicts my theory that genes help! This movie should get the BEST DIALOGUES award. Sample this
Esha: I'm scared
Shiney: It's normal in these(hijack) situations!
Esha: This is a hijack situation.... it's a hijack... do you bloody even know what a Hijack means??
I'm speechless...!! I'll leave it at that. Nothing new in this movie. Been there, seen it all.

Seen a lotta inconsequential movies too, thankfully not full.... my patience gave way in 10 minutes and for once my laziness also obliged me by letting my finger move on the remote.... like Koi Dil Main Hain(no, it's not a K serial.. but a 3 hour movie), Cash... and the likes..!! I seriously need some journal and movie rehab now!!

Now, for some updates on the new releases. Marjaani is awesome... listen to it at full blast... a lovely track! SRK looks fantastic in the song. The other one with Deepika is well un-comprehendable. I can't make out what Neeraj Sridhar is singing..! And Deepika... er.. well... the size of her tops is never more than the size of a bikini top!!! Seriously! She dances well, but somehow she doesn't have the feminine grace that Sonam Kapoor has... something that Madhuri and Aishwariya had...! Sonam is fantastic in Dilli 6... the song Masakali is great... ofcourse AR Rahman!! I really like this dame.First actress I've liked since Madhuri Dixit. (liked Ash only in HDDCS...she was phenomenal in that movie!). I just hope she doesn't become bitchy in some time! I want Victory to release really soon... at least then will they stop showing the promos..! I've jettisoned my plans of watchin this movie... I'll watch Brett Lee in the IPL...!! Wanting to end this post on a good note... Slumdog Millionaire is finally releasing.... I hope they release it in English also..! Jai Ho... is an awesome track!

Ghajini

Wow!! This feels like heaven!! No 'real' exam till Feb.... wow! Mini Vacation! Yeah, so the first thing I did was watch Ghajini. Now, I was really skeptical about it because the papers give it a real bad review....it had 2 1/2 stars.... whereas Oye Lucky had 3 1/2 and it was PATHETIC. My family still hate me for taking them for it!! So I was just wondering, how Ghajini would be with just 2 1/2 stars! But then I was surprised to find out that it was much much better than Oye Lucky! At least I understood the movie and didn't have to rely on the Punjabi taught to me by Aanch!

So, you see Jiah Khan in the first scene. You gotta survive the scene to see the entire movie man! Jiah Khan reiterates the fact to me that ... yes! there is someone who's got worse hair than mine!! She seriously needs a rebonding job soon! The movie is really really violent with action scenes directly imported from South Indian movies!! Really now, never imagined Aamir, even with his 6/8/n pack abs to beat up 7 feet tall guys with as many number of packed abs or whatever it is called! I mean even they have the 'muscle' power to beat you, but they won't ... baddies don't beat the hero, I remember... they only kill the heroine and leave the hero alive so that he can avenge her death. Short term memory loss isn't that big a deal! Aamir was very good in the movie, as usual. But somehow Aamir doesn't convince me as a khoonkhar khooni.... his chocolate boy QSQT image is short-term-memory-loss proof!!

Asin is pretty and her hair...well... wonders of hair rebonding!! She's bubbly alright.... but she's dumb! I mean she never recognised a big-shot CEO?!? Must've never opened the paper, I presume! Jiah Khan.. I don't know... I need to see one more movie to really comment on her. (I'll wait for her next release.... not seeing Nishabd at any cost!) Now, I'm really confused if Ghajini was the same guy who played Darsheel's Dad in TZP or was he one of the baddies in Sarfarosh.... or if both... err...three of these people are the same!! But naming a movie on its main baddy....WOW! It's like writing your autobiography and giving it the name of the bitch who ruined your life!! Now, lets see some loopholes that marred the almost-non existent plot.

  1. How did Aamir start finding and hunting Ghajini's men? Did he google them??
  2. How whatever happened to his company?? There's something called as accountability to share holders, isn't it? Chuck the company... whatever happened to BMWs? I'm in the mood to get one, if they're giving them away!
  3. How did no one recognize a top CEO? Not the police guy... not another head of company... no one?? Guess, Times should shut shop.No one reads the paper in this country! It'll also help them combat recession!
  4. The police guy who entered Aamir's house and even managed to tie him up ran away like a bheegi billi later on! How preposterous... and he was double the size of Aamir!
  5. A Harvard grad wrote his diary in hindi..... must've given his GMAT/GRE in Bhojpuri then!

There were many more things that didn't go down easily but I'm not able to recollect them right now. Freak.... is this short term memory loss?!? Jokes apart, I really liked this movie for the way they showed a business guy! For once there was no lampoonofying! But Aamir's sleeves in the movie reminded me of the new "puff" sleeves that's in fashion these days.... in salwar kameezes!! I had fought 10 mins with my Mom to get those sleeves off my dress..... and now Mom says.... see even Aamir wears them!!! What an example! Guess he still isn't off that Tata Sky ad!

But, seriously there was a lot of violence in the movie... babies had started crying in the movie ka climax in the theatre! One reason I didn't want to see this movie was the violence, but then when you take other people for Oye Lucky.... they really want revenge!! I guess.... I'll never watch "SAW"..... some kinda God-forsaken movie which is really really violent. Guess, my friend who dared me to see this movie will win! I couldn't take Ghajini ka violence.... what and how will I watch SAW? I'd rather watch Exorcist! Ghost v/s human is better than human v/s human fighting!! Who's scared of ghosts anyways?? Just show it a mirror!! Ghosts are any ways less scarier than cockroaches!!

P.S: Note the ashleelta in Hindi film songs.... listen to Shut up and bounce!! Ram Ram!!!

P.P.S: SAW in the movie means the past participle of see or is it the carpenter's tool?? I'm really confused!

Kismet Konnection

One more second day first show (bloody 7.55 am show!!) movie for me.... Kismet Konnection.... The only thing that is talkable in this movie is SHAHID KAPOOR...... Hetvi and Lucky will agree!! Vidya Balan can only act. She can't dress well..... even to save her life!! Gosh! What was she wearing at the engagement song?! Donnatella Versace, Roberto Cavalli, and Jean Paul Gaultier....... all of them will have a simultaneous heart attack if they choose to see her in the song! EGREGIOUS is the word!

The story is pretty much ok.... they guy was an all rounder in school but luck didn't favour him after school ... so is pretty much a loser (like me!! hehe!!). Everything for him goes wrong.... right from his alarm not ringing, water supply giving way, car not starting, boss dying et cetera et cetera.... but then Lady Luck aka Vidya enters his life and everything falls in place! They met at an ATM.... Guess I should also wait for my Guy Luck outside an ATM centre!!! (I've defenestrated the standing-outta-jewellery store idea.... Jannat was way too well...hmm... Emraan Haashmiish!)

They scenes you might wanna check out would all feature Shahid either in black or white or pink.... this guy can actually look like a GUY in pink!!! Shahid dancing, Shahid smiling, Shahid thinking..... all these scenes are ones you should definitely check out.... check out the gol gol shots taken around Shahid in Bakhuda Tumhi Ho song.... this ong vasoolofies your paisa to the movie!! The Global Warming and lack of CSR gibberish in the end is a tad irritating (more so after you know this is not how the corporate world functions... CAT asar you know!!)

Overall, the movie was like okay.... Shahid being the only saving grace..!!
